Eckerd College is a private 4-year coeducational liberal arts college at the southernmost tip of St. Petersburg, which is a city in Pinellas County, in the US state of Florida, with a population estimated at a number of more than 245 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census.
The college was established in 1958, and since then has continuously grown, currently having an enrollment estimated at a number of nearly 2000 students, offering educational programs in numerous fields of study, including both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, also being known for its programs in Marine Science, Chemistry, Sociology, Literature, and Creative Writing.
Eckerd's athletic teams are known as the Tritons, who compete in NCAA Division II, in several sports, for both men and women, including in soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, sailing and other sports. Their distinctive colors are teal, navy, and black.
